'we've found the body of your child'

During this session, we looked at drawing some vegetables in detail, however for this drawing, we weren't allowed to look at the page and just look at the object. In my case, this was a green pepper. I found it very hard to not look at the page and see what my drawing was looking like. I found it a very useful exercise and helped you get an understanding of observation and just general mark making. If I were to do this drawing again, I might perhaps try adding colour or using a media instead of the pencil to give the drawing a whole different look, however I am very pleased with the outcome of it.

Another exercise we carried out was to think of something that happened that weekend and draw a series of three sketches relating to this.

This was my drawing. I thought my idea to draw some earrings I bought was a good idea, along with two other drawings of what happened next for example, the second sketch of what was in the bag and then the final sketch of the bin I put the rubbish in. I didn't really like this task very much. I feel that I could have drawn something a little more exciting. Also, I don't think I thought too much about the composition of the page as the sketches are just layed out in quite a formal manor I think. If I were to do this again, I would definately reconsider the composition of the page. This is very important and can make the page more interesting to look at. If the page has a bad composition like mine, it just seems a bit boring to me, a little predictable. The only thing I do like is the way each sketch is a little larger than the previous one.
The final task in this session was to draw something from still life. I chose to draw a small glass vase. I chose this object because I wanted to challenge myself. It was really hard to draw as there is so much detail to capture in a small space. Using a 2B pencil, I think this has worked really well. I think I've captured the glass effect efficiently and am pleased with the overall drawing considering the object is really difficult!
